Day 12: In Every Season

In Every Season
Amber Hastings

Life is composed of many different seasons. Any one person reading this may be in a season where life is great and everything is on the up and up. Someone else, however may be in a season of great difficulty, loss and trials. In what season would you say you were in?

As we go through this life, I would say that one of the most difficult things can be to not let our circumstance dictate our praise. In the moments when the doctor calls with another bad report and our problems don’t seem to be panning out quite the way we hope and the peace seems to evade every aspect of our lives, are you able to allow your worship to remain unpolluted by your circumstance?

“At this Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said:
‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and The Lord has taken away; may the name of The Lord be praised.’” -Job 1:20-21

In this verse we see Job, a man who has lost everything. If there was one person who might have good reason to allow his pain to interfere with his worship, it was this guy. Yet in the midst of trial and the news that his children are now dead, the words that leave his mouth are ‘may the name of The Lord be praised.’

We are such a long way from Eden, this world is not our home and depravity and brokenness seem to scream this reality at every corner, but we are still have reason to worship. In the midst of chaos, our God is still so great. The God we serve is still good and his goodness is not dependent on the resolution of our present circumstance. His goodness stands outside of our trial. As we hold to this truth and look to Jesus, we will be able to worship not out of what is going on around us, but out of truth.
